"A Proud and Cherished American Tradition Is the Willingness of Individuals to Do Good Works That Extend Beyond Themselves"

The right of every American to participate fully in his or her community is fundamental to our way of life. This right was expanded in 1917 when federal legislation was passed to allow tax deductions for charitable giving. Donations continue to be an important source of funding for charities.

In 1999, $190.16 billion was distributed in contributions to charities. It might be surprising to some that most charitable giving comes from individuals ($143.71 billion or 75.6%), with foundations next ($19.81 billion, or 10.4%), followed by bequests ($15.61 billion, or 8.2%), and the rest from corporations ($1.02 billion, or 5.8%).

While tax deductions are an important consideration, they alone do not provide enough to motivate a potential donor to make a contribution to a charity. The donor must also believe in the charity's mission and purpose enough to want to leave a gift that extends beyond their lifetime. We call these individuals "Legacy Builders."

We hope the information in this Website will help you to decide if we are a charity deserving of your gift. We are available for tours and to discuss your interest in donating or your intention to do so.
